More people will be able to enjoy their summer vacation on Jeju, one of the most popular vacation spots among Koreans, as the government has allowed more flights on the Gimpo-Jeju route from this month.

The Ministry of Construction and Transportation recently decided to allow more flights on the air route that will add about 62,414 additional seats for the month, the golden time for summer vacations.

Korean Air and Asiana Airlines will offer an additional 41,645 and 16,569 seats, respectively, to make 396,868 and 207,393 seats on an aggregated basis. The newly established Hansung Airline will also schedule 10 flights with 70 seats a day for the air route from July 6, that will add up to 606,461 seats in total for the period as a whole.

``Unfortunately, the number does not meet the demand, but we will try to increase the number of seats further to make it easier for everyone to visit Jeju by plane as they planned,’’ a ministry official said.
