Psy Decides to Serve in the Military
Pop singer Psy, 29, who was found to have neglected his duty at a software firm he worked for as an alternative to serving in the military, said Monday he would not take any action to avoid being drafted and would follow the military authority's order.
The prosecution found that the unqualified Psy obtained a job at the firm after his uncle bribed the firm head, but he neglected his duties there and held 52 concerts during the employment period. It will request the Military Manpower Administration to cancel Psy's employment contract and enlist him as a draftee.
It has been said he can avoid serving his full time in the Army by taking another alternative job if he files a suit against the administration, as he will soon turn 30. Thirty-year-olds no longer have to perform the compulsory military service.
``I did what I did as I did not know it was wrong and nobody told me it was wrong. But if the government and the law cannot accept it, I will respect the decision,'' he said at a press briefing in Seoul.
He said he would become a father of twins in October. ``I feel nervous and am worried about the situation, but want to become a proud and honorable father,'' Psy said.
