Actor Park Bo-gum is seeking to join the Navy military band to serve his obligatory military service, his agency Blossom Entertainment said Tuesday.
Park, 26, had an interview on Monday to become a member of the Naval Culture Promotion Group, a Blossom official was quoted as saying.
“Only a few company officials knew about his application,” he said.
The result of his application will be known on June 25. If Park is accepted, he is set to start his service on Aug. 31 in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, and return to civilian life in April 2022.
Local media outlet JoongAng Ilbo reported earlier on Tuesday that the star took a piano/singing test and had an interview at Navy Headquarters in Gyeryong, South Chungcheong Province, to be part of the military band.
It quoted a military official as saying, “Park showed skillful piano playing and is highly likely to be accepted unless there are grounds for disqualification.”
Park's father, who served his military service in the Navy, is believed to have influenced the actor's decision. Park also graduated from Myongji University with a degree in Musical Theater.
He debuted in the movie “Blind” (2011) and shot to fame after appearing in the tvN soap opera "Reply 1988" (2015-16). He is now filming the movie “Wonderland” and tvN's drama “Record of Youth.”
