Anti-American, Pro-Communist Screed

Listen

Dear editor,

In his Feb. 9 letter to The Korea Times, Dr. Chandra Muzaffar hardly addresses the issue of returning the Guantanamo naval base to Cuban control. The issue merely serves as a springboard from which he launches an anti-American, pro-communist screed.

Dr. Muzaffar blames the ``inhumane'' U.S. embargo for poverty in Cuba. He conveniently ignores that it has not prevented Fidel Castro from becoming rich himself and it's estimated that he has a personal net worth of several hundreds of millions of dollars.

Dr. Muzaffar says the base should be returned to ``the people of Cuba'' ― but fails to realize that nothing in Cuba belongs to the ``people of Cuba.'' It belongs to Castro ― one of history's most brutal dictators, despite Dr. Muzaffar's implied veneration of him.

Dr. Muzaffar bemoans the ``insufferable arrogance and insolence'' shown to the Cuban regime by the U.S. ― yet conveniently forgets that Castro's regime, like every single other communist regime in world history, took power by force and violence, rather than by democratic means.

It doesn't get more ``arrogant and insolent'' than that.

Over the past half-century, scores of thousands of Cubans have taken to a storm-prone, shark-infested sea in makeshift rafts in order to escape, their destination being the ``arrogant and insolent'' United States. Would Dr. Muzaffar care to explain?

Dr. Muzaffar's worst statement is his accusation that Cubans have suffered ``every conceivable injustice'' ― not from the brutal Castro regime, but from the United States.

I dare him to try selling his left-wing propaganda to the Cuban exiles in south Florida, who actually lived under Castro's fist. I doubt he'd have much success.

Dr. Muzaffar's organization, International Movement for a Just World, has a nice-sounding name, but it's mere propagandistic window-dressing: just a quick look at its Web site reveals its radical, far-left, anti-American agenda.

The man Dr. Muzaffar implicitly idolizes ― Fidel Castro ― stands for nothing even remotely related to justice or human rights.
