We Can Change the World!

I would like to comment on the article “Who Can Change the World,” which appeared in the Dec. 2 edition of The Korea Times. The article says you can change the world with our seemingly weak, but truly strong power. My opinion is that we should not ignore a crime even when you think it does not have anything to do with your own life. Such incidents that you experience (did not call the police after incidentally witnessed someone sideswipe another’s car and run away) will hurt all members of society eventually, in one way or another.
First of all, the car insurance company will raise their insurance premiums, because they have to pay a lot of compensation in similar cases again and again. They will demand higher premiums in order to provide full cover.
Secondly, the levels of fear and mistrust in our society will increase. If these cases recur often and nobody wants to get involved in helping those in need, then some foreigners and even us Koreans will not think our country is safe.
I think humans are social animals. We cannot live alone. We have to live together. So we should watch out for each other and help each individual live a more wealthy and happy life. Sometimes we happen to think about our safety from the resulting consequences of our actions (those who committed the crime will take revenge on us) or just from an inconvenient situation. But water can erode stone. We should all be a little braver and believe that we can change the world!
