Baristella stands out from coffee shop crowd

Baristella Coffe Shop

By Gemma Wardle

Seoul has more than its fair share of coffee shops; in fact the city is riddled with them. But most are boring chain stores that sell the same old drinks, which is why Baristella really sets itself apart from the crowd. This super-modern, trendy store is housed over four floors and overlooks the ultra-cool playground in Hongdae.

What makes Baristella stand out is the fun dessert-style drinks it specializes in. The Triple Cheese smoothie is a thick, creamy shake that comes with a piece of cheesecake on top. The Cotton Candy Yogurt smoothie is a sweet, tangy blue drink topped with candy floss and sprinkles. For those who do not like dairy drinks, you are sure to enjoy the fresh citrus ade laced with gummy worms. It is a tasty sensation.

Along with its cute and tasty drinks, Baristella also serves New Yorkers’ favourite food, bagels, which are baked in the store. It has a huge variety of flavours, including onion, jalapeno, and garlic, and more than 14 different kinds of cream cheese to smother them in. The jalapeno with scallion cream cheese was my favourite, but the world is your oyster. So whether you want to pop in for a coffee, a snack, or a dessert, Baristella has you covered.
