Westin Chosun

The Westin Chosun Seoul has imbued Korean features to its rooms and was selected March 12 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as an “interior space with high class traditional Korean design.”

The renovated rooms are one by architect Choi Si-young that translate stories about Korea and the Chosun Hotel through modern contemporary designs.

From November last year until February this year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism invited the public to make submissions on interior designs reflecting the philosophy and beauty of traditional Korean heritage as a part of its research into traditional Korean spatial designs.

The judges said, “The visualization of gate and its expression is unique,” and the “use of wood, stone and paper emphasized the stories behind the room and the “room provides unique Korean traditional floor culture to foreigners through the application of 3 different motifs ― stepping, adjusting and gate.”
