2008 Spring Makeup Trend

By Chung Ah-young

Staff Reporter

Although it's still cold out, spring is nearing, and if you're still wearing the same old makeup colors that you wore through winter, why not switch to something new?

This is the time of year that women transform their appearance. Springtime offers women the opportunity to make new discoveries in cosmetics that can make the skin come alive with color.

If you are savvy enough, you might catch this season's makeup trends from models on the runways of the world's high-profile fashion shows.

Major cosmetic brands are rushing to preview the new makeup trends this spring, introducing must-have items.

Skin: Silky Matt

For this spring, silky matt skin dominates. Last year, shimmering and glossy makeup was the hot trend, but this season, the skin is the focus.

The matt look, compared to the glossy look, can be easily achieved by many women and it has the advantage of covering spots and providing a soft look.

The so-called ``nude'' look, which is a natural makeup look, when mixed in with a little bit of color, will help you look more fresh and younger.

But the most important thing to remember is the fact that natural makeup looks best on a face that is well taken care of, so don't abandon those facials, creams and other skin care procedures as they help refresh your skin and prevent wrinkles.

Choose a natural beige foundation for your skin rather than going lighter, as you could end up looking pale and sickly. Also the point is to provide your skin with a lot of moisture so that it doesn't look dry. Makeup artists advise that you use a moisturizing foundation and don't forget basic skin care.

Bobbi Brown presents Natural Finish Long Lasting Foundation (58,000 won) for natural and silky looks. Equipped with an easy-to-use pump, the liquid type foundation controls oils and keeps the skin matt all day long. It is also hydrating and has great antioxidant protection.

For women in search of a perfectly natural complexion, L'Oreal has invented True Match (25,000 won), designed to perfectly match the color and texture of your skin.

Following research into the skin-tones of women from around the world, L'Oreal Laboratories have developed a unique palette of 12 shades.

The result is a natural-looking skin color that applies without tide marks, and has outstanding coverage without caking. The non-greasy oils in the True Match formula allows you to build up layers for coverage yet providing a natural and light finish.

For a bright touch to the skin, Blush Delicieux by L'Oreal (16,000 won) with pearly satin quality is a good option. The blush color lasts all day and is available in vibrant tones. It is a soft, powdery blush that glides easily over the cheeks to provide a soft shimmer and a healthier looking complexion. Enriched with Vitamin C, Blush Delicieux has a subtle fruity fragrance. The result is a creamy powder formulation that melts delicately onto the skin for an irresistible healthy looking glow.

Eyes & Lips: Minimalism

Spring makeup always comes in light and fruity colors. But minimal makeup, which uses more natural colors, goes well with creamy, matt skin tones. Highlighting the brows or using eyeliner to accent the eyes, are some techniques that go well with this season's trends.

Bobbi Brown suggests you use eyeliner and dark eye shadow to highlight just the outline of the eyes.

But if you want to use colorful eye shadow to match the color of spring, don't forget to keep your skin looking matt, which matches better with soft pastel colors.

Many cosmetic brands are currently promoting lovely shadow colors, from peach to violet and soft blue to soft green.

Women tend to rely on using lip and eye colors with pink tinges to make them look alluring and more adorable.

Accentuate the cheeks and eyelids with pinks or oranges, which also matches well with the natural look.

Bobbi Brown introduces Nude Lip & Eye Palette (75,000 won) with natural and nude colors. Shades consist of various tones such as buff shimmer, nude shimmer wash, bare eye shadow, naked eye shadow, bare lip color and beige lip color, brownie pink lip color and cocoa lip color.

Bobbi Brown also has Glitter Lip Gloss (30,000 won) with four colors ― almost bare, naked, nude and buff, which give the lips a vibrant and glamorous look.

L'Oreal has launched the Telescopic Mascara (18,000 won), which lengthens lashes with its unique brush. It lasts about 24 hours and is much easier to take off at the end of the day. Also by L'Oreal, Color Riche Star Secrets will give your lips a touch of vibrant colors.
