Korea Foundation showcases climate-conscious works at COP28 in Dubai

The Korea Foundation (KF) will host a Korean cultural event in Dubai, coinciding with the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). This event, running until Dec. 11 at the Dubai Expo City, showcases Korea's commitment to addressing climate change through innovative and engaging mediums.

The KF's participation in COP28, a platform for discussing carbon neutrality and the implementation of the Paris Agreement, reflects Korea's stance in the global climate conversation. The "Pale Blue Dot" exhibition, previously showcased at the opening of the KF's XR Gallery earlier this year, traveled to the Korea Pavilion in Dubai Expo City.

This exhibit features works by Korean artists such as Moon Kyung-won & Jeon Jun-ho's "Cosmos" and Zin Ki-jong, Cha Dong-hoon and Kang Ji-young's "Universal Manufacture." Their creations delve into pressing environmental issues, including the climate crisis, carbon emissions and the plight of endangered species.

The KF will also screen video works from the winners of the Korea-U.K. Creative Commissions for the Climate project. This initiative, a collaboration between KF and the British Council, further emphasizes the role of art in climate advocacy.

The centerpiece of the event is a performance on Dec. 4, featuring the renowned B-boy group Gambler Crew and the female rocking crew Rolling Hands. Known for their impressive achievements in international competitions, these groups will present "No More Opportunity" on the Green Zone stage, sending a message to the global community underscoring the urgency of collective action against climate change. The performance incorporates "Point of Observation," an interactive artwork by Kim In-kyu and Cha Dong-hoon, creating a unique blend of dance and media art.
