Winners of 49th Modern Korean Literature Translation Awards

Yang Eun-mi

The Korea Times is pleased to announce the winners of the 49th Modern Korean Literature Translation Awards.

The Grand Prize winner in fiction is Kim Seol-kyung for her translation of "A Covering Hand" by novelist Kim Ae-ran. The Grand Prize winner in poetry is the team of Yang Eun-mi and Ed Bok Lee for their translation of 10 poems by Kim Ki-taek, including "Death of a Thousand Years."

The Commendation Award in fiction goes to Sean Lin Halbert for his translation of "The Other Side" by Kim Ae-ran. No winner has been given the Commendation Award in poetry this year.

We congratulate all participants and winners for their hard work and hope for a greater number of entries next year as Korean literature needs more skilled translators to reach global audiences. The contest was sponsored by KB Financial Group.
