Jung Ja-young

The Korea Times has selected nine students and one group as winners of the sixth Korea Multicultural Youth Awards.

The winner of the grand prize is Jung Ja-young, a sixth grader at Jusang Elementary School in Geochang, South Gyeongsang Province. Born to a Korean father and Filipina mother, Jung has exhibited academic excellence, leadership and skills in sports and arts -- winning awards at county and provincial level contests.

Eight other outstanding students were awarded in the elementary, middle and high school as well as volunteer categories. One student won the special Semoon Chang award, while the Gungdong Group Home was selected for the volunteer group award. The awards are sponsored by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
