Game publicist awarded for cultural heritage protection

Karen Koo, senior public relations manager at Riot Games, has received a citation from the nation’s Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) for protecting cultural assets, the gaming company said Monday.

Koo has taken a leading role in planning and implementing the company’s social responsibility activities protecting Korea’s cultural heritage assets and her personal contribution has been recognized by the CHA.

She pledged to continue her efforts to promote cultural heritage preservation not only in her work but also personally.

“It is a great honor to receive the citation after working for years to protect Korea’s cultural heritage assets, which has also been very meaningful personally,” Koo said in a telephone interview, Monday.

Koo, who had previously worked at SK Communications and Nexon, said she has experienced corporate social responsibility activities and found it quite worthwhile. At Nexon, she said she visited pediatric wards to give them hope for a full recovery.

She vowed to continue to make contributions in protecting and preserving the nation’s cultural assets.

The CHA has chosen companies and individuals who contributed to the protection and support of Korea’s cultural assets and awarded them.

Riot Games, which has drawn massive popularity here with its online computer game “League of Legends,” has worked to give back a part of its profit for social contribution. Under partnership with the CHA since 2012, the U.S.-headquartered gaming company has pushed to redeem Korea’s cultural assets in overseas countries and supported 3D precision measurement projects of cultural heritage sites.

The company won the same citation as a business from the CHA earlier in 2014.
