Kwang Dong Pharmaceutical received an award at an international design competition, Red Dot Award 2015, for the packaging of its soy milk product.

A company spokesman said Tuesday that its “Alchan Soybeans” won the Winners Prize.

The Red Dot Award is one of the world’s top three design awards. The other two are iF Design Award and the International Design Excellence Awards.

About 7,500 entries from 53 nations competed in the competition.

“We believe that our product won the prize because it expresses the concept of a healthy Jeju Island through the package design,” the spokesman said.

The product is made of soybeans grown on Jeju, a southwestern resort island.

The product is divided into three kinds: original, black beans and five grains. The packaging of the original product is green, black beans is black and five grains, brown.

Led by the company’s Vice Chairman Choi Sung-won, Kwang Dong has strengthened its design management. The company established its design center in March 2014 to focus on developing innovative designs.

“Considering that we have continuously been making healthy drinks including Vita 500, we have always focused on improving the quality of our products,” the spokesman said.

“We will continue to create distinguished designs to satisfy consumers,” Lee Sang-min, creative director of the design center, said in a statement.

Last year, the company’s four products won the Packstar Award at the Korea Package Design Competition, one of the most prestigious design competitions in the country.

The products are: Viewfit-Sparkling Time (Plain/Lemon), Vita500 Slush Drink, Kwangdong Lemon & Ginger, Kwangdong Rosehip Tea. Viewfit-Sparkling Time received the Silver Award at the K-Design Award 2015 .
