Prof. Choi Jung-hwa, president of the Corea Image Communication Institute (CICI) has released a new book titled “The Ten Habits of Designing My Life, 10C.”

In the book, Prof. Choi speaks of her 30 years of experience as a simultaneous interpreter and translator, and the 10 key words that she defines as having contributed to her success. Choi calls these the 10 C’s ― concentration, culture, communication and convivialite, cooperation, care, creativity, confidence, challenge, curiosity and commitment.

The book does not tell readers how Choi succeeded, but she does mention the habits that she believes one should acquire to reach success. This list comes from her personal experiences as president of the CICI, a non-profit organization with the mission of promoting Korea’s image abroad.

Also detailed in the book are Choi’s encounters with prominent figures like former Archbishop Kim Sou-hwan, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and conductor Chung Myung-whun.

Choi also touches on the “rituals” that helped her get accustomed to said habits, such as exercising at least 15 minutes a day, thoroughly researching those who you will communicate with and experiencing various cultures with all five senses.

Choi is currently a professor of interpretation and translation at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies’ Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Paris III: Sorbonne and Nouvelle. She has authored several books, including “Angel Aura,” published in 2007.
