Seoul teachers' association has new chief

Yu Byung-yul, 59, a professor at Seoul National University of Education, was elected new president of the Seoul Federation of Teachers’ Associations, the organization announced Sunday.

Yu received 9,532 votes, or 61.3 percent of the total during an election held Friday, beating his rival, Seoul National University of Education Professor Hur Jong-ryul who garnered 6,016 votes.

He will serve a three-year term.

After graduating from Seoul National University of Education, Yu, a Gangwon Province native, studied law at Konkuk University before earning his master’s degree and doctorate in ethics education at Seoul National University.
