Professor to serve on int'l competition jury

Kim Dae-jin

Kim Dae-jin, a professor of instrumental music at the Korea National University of Arts (K-arts), has become the first Korean to serve on the jury of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, according to K-arts, Monday.

Kim studied piano at the Juilliard School, and has since won a number of awards, including the Artist of the Year Award, conferred by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports in 2005; the Nanpa music award in 1987; the Kumho Teacher’s Award in 2005 and 2007; and first prize in the Robert Casadesus International Competition. He has also served as director of the Kumho Chamber Music Society.

The Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition was established in 1974 and has held some 13 competitions, where 600 pianists have competed and 43 have won prizes. It is an international piano competition that specializes in music championed by Arthur Rubinstein, a Polish-American classical pianist.
