US envoy Sung Kim receives HUFS award

Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) awarded Friday the Global HUFS Awards to four ambassadors and CEOs who have contributed to the global promotion of the university.

It presented the award to the United States Ambassador to Korea Sung Kim for successfully endorsing the university as the venue for U.S. President Barack Obama to deliver a speech in March 2012.

“It is a great pleasure to receive the award in the auditorium where President Obama made a speech. I hope the relationship between the Republic of Korea and the U.S. will be further strengthened,” said Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs of the U.S. Embassy Seoul Brent Byers, who received the award on behalf of the U.S. ambassador.

The university commended EU Ambassador to Korea Thomasz Kozlowski for launching an EU center in HUFS, and promoting Korea-EU relations including the successful opening of an EU Ambassadors’ conference in 2011.

Park Chul, the president of the university, said that “It is a great honor to award the four laureates who have successfully supported and contributed to Hankuk University of Foreign Studies to garner its capacity as a global university.”

Gyeonggi Small Business Center CEO Hong Ki-hwa and Bae Seok-kyu, president of cable news channel, YTN, also received awards for their contribution to the university.

HUFS awarded the four laureates in commemoration of its 59th Anniversary.
