Former Mayor lectures at Hanyang University

Former Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon started teaching city administration at Hanyang University this month, the school said Friday.

Oh has signed a one-year teaching contract with the university’s Graduate School of Public Policy, where he will lecture on city administration once a week.

Oh stepped down on Aug. 26, 2011, in the middle of his second term after a referendum he proposed on free school meals was rejected due to a low voter turnout. After quitting the mayoralty, Oh left for the United Kingdom in May 2012 before returning home that December.

Some liberal politicians are fuming at the news Oh will teach at the school, as they charge he is the least qualified person to teach city administration. Oh became a target of criticism for embarking on many large-scale building projects while mayor.

“Have we forgotten the fiscal burden we’re left with after his departure as mayor? It’s nonsense that he now stands before students lecturing on city administration,” said Park Yong-jin, spokesman for the main opposition Democratic United Party.
