Chang Myong-sue, 68, advisor to the Hankook Ilbo, the sister paper of The Korea Times, has been named chairwoman of the board of Ewha School.
The school runs Ewha Womans University and Ewha Girls’ High School. She has served as a director for the school since October 2009 and will take office on March 2.
Chang, who majored in journalism at the university, started her career as a reporter at the Hankook Ilbo in 1963. Her illustrious career is highlighted as she became the first female chief editor in Korea, and has been in an advisory post at the Hankook Ilbo since 2008.
She was named the head of the Korea Woman Journalists’ Association and of a club of Ewha graduate journalists.
Chang is also one of the nation’s most outstanding columnists, well-known for publishing a biweekly column in the daily since 1982. Her accomplishments include winning several awards from the senior journalists’ fraternity Kwanhun Club, Ewha School, Samsung, and the YWCA.
