Kangta to be torch runner in 2010 Asian Games

Hallyu star and former H.O.T. member Kangta, 31, has been selected to be a torch runner during the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, his managing company SM Entertainment announced Thursday.

``Kangta will participate in the torch run around the area of Guangzhou University on Nov. 11,’’a spokesperson said. The Korean singer will be the only non-Chinese bearer of the torch, which includes such names as classical pianist Lang Lang.

The torch relay began last month on Oct. 9 in Beijing, and is gradually making its way to Guangzhou for the opening on Nov. 12. A total of 2,010 runners and other celebrities will participate in the relay.

``The soft-spoken Kangta’s activities for public services and praise throughout the Asian region has earned him international influence’’said the organizing committee of the games, on their selection of the entertainer.

Kangta will be included in the postage stamp series ``I’m an Olympic torch runner,’’commemorating the Asian games in Guangzhou.

The singer officially entered the Chinese market in September, with the release of his mini-album ``Rest in the Seven Luck.’’

강타, 아시안 게임 성화 봉송 주자로 선정

한류스타이자 전 HOT 멤버인 강타(31)가 2010 광저우 아시안 게임에서 성화 봉송 주자로 선정됐다고 소속사 SM 엔터테인먼트가 목요일 발표했다.

소속사 관계자는 “강타는 11월 11일 광저우 대학 지역에서 가질 성화 봉송에 참여하게 되었다,” 고 말했다. 강타는 이번 성화 봉송 주자 중 유일한 비 중국인이다.

성화 봉송 릴레이는 지난 10월 9일 베이징에서 출발, 오는 11월 12일 개막을 앞두고 광저우로 향하고 있다. 이번 성화 봉송에는 총 2,010명이 참여하며 강타 등 많은 유명인들도 참여한다.

이번을 계기로 강타는 “나는 올림픽 성화 봉송 주자” 시리즈로 아시안 게임을 기념하기 위해 제작되는 우표에 모습을 남기게 된다.

강타는 지난 9월 새 앨범 출시, 중국시장에 뛰어들었다.
