SKAL International Seoul, a congregation of executives in the tourism industry, has set up a new team with the objective of bringing the SKAL World Congress to Korea in 2012.

Robert Sohn received the baton as president from Adrian Slater, general manager of Park Hyatt Seoul, while Eric Swanson, general manager of Millennium Seoul, was named senior vice president.

"Winning the right to host the World Congress in Seoul and Incheon is our foremost priority," said Sohn, CEO of Promac Partnership, a tourism consulting company.

Sohn and Swanson have already started the initiative for bringing the 2012 World Congress to Korea, which brings together more than 1,000 leaders in the tourism industry from around the world.

"The vote for selecting the location of the 2012 World Congress will take place in Sydney in October and we have organized a special team to look at every aspect of our initiative," said Swanson at the handover ceremony this week at the Grand Hyatt Seoul.

As part of this effort, SKAL International Seoul has launched a new chapter in Incheon, the thriving transportation hub west of Seoul, which is hoping to co-host the World Congress.

"This is an outstanding opportunity to really put Korea on the tourism map in the world, bringing together some of the most prominent leaders in the industry here," Sohn said.
