Korean boy band Super Junior has topped the music charts in Thailand and Taiwan, according to its agency, SM Entertainment, Wednesday.
The group's song ``Sorry Sorry'' topped Thailand's Channel [V] ``Asian TOP 50 Year End 2009'' music chart, comprised of the music channel's most-requested songs by fans over the last year.
This is not the first time the 13-member group was chosen as number one in Thailand. Back in 2007, the group's number ``Happiness'' topped the channels ``Top 100 of 2007 International Chart'' as the most popular song played over the year.
``This is proof that the group has been continuously gaining popularity in Thailand over the years,'' SM Entertainment said in a statement.
The group has also boosted their popularity in Taiwan, and was chosen number one on radio channel Hit FM's ``2009 100 Singles'' chart.
This chart was determined by the number of requests for the song over the year, an Internet vote held from Dec. 7 to 20 and the channel's weekly chart reports for 2009. ``Sorry Sorry'' soared to number one with more than 250,000 votes.
Korean pop groups saw their popularity soar last year and this also applied to overseas charts. A total of 34 tracks by Korean groups dominated the ``Asian TOP 50 Year End 2009,'' including those by Girls' Generation, Big Bang, 2PM, SHINee, TVXQ, Wonder Girls and SS501.
Super Junior made its debut in 2005 and has since been one of the top idol groups in Korea. Its 13 members have also formed sub-groups, such as Super Junior M, Super Junior Happy and Super Junior K.R.Y. Despite the soaring popularity, the group has faced some challenges over recent months, as member Kang In was charged for his involvement in a bar scuffle and fellow member Han Kyung sued SM Entertainment for unfair treatment.
