Jun Kwang-woo, former head of the Financial Services Commission, was appointed the president and CEO of the National Pension Service, Wednesday.
Jun said he will lead the 270-trillion-won fund in a sustainable and sound expansion in an age of low birthrates.
"My main goal is to make the public corporation the best social security service organization and globalize the fund's management to strengthen our competitiveness," he said.
Authorities said Jun is the best fit for the position as he has considerable experience in international financial fields ― he worked for the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development for 15 years and then served as chairman of Deloitte Korea. He has also worked for a number of international financial organizations.
