Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon named Korean rocker Kim Jong-seo as goodwill ambassador of the city in the environmental field, Monday.

Kim will now join the celebration of Seoul Car Free Day on Tuesday and sing a new song he wrote about environmental protection titled ``Star Story'' in Teheran Street, southern Seoul.

He performed at the United Nations Public Service Awards (UNPSA) ceremony on June 23, the first time for a Korean singer to perform at an official event held by the U.N.

Mayor Oh and Kim met at the awards, and the former asked the rocker to become the goodwill ambassador of Seoul to promote the city's environmental policies.

Kim donated his cap to Seoul City. The item is to be auctioned, with the proceeds going to the Community Chest of Korea.

Making his debut in 1987, Kim is from the first generation of Korean heavy metal music practitioners, releasing environmentally themed songs and holding environment-friendly concerts.
