Busan Mayor Wins Jurgen Palm Award

Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik Friday received the TAFISA Jurgen Palm Award 2009 at the 21st TAFISA World Congress which is taking place in Taipei from Sept. 3 to 7.

The award is in recognition of his contribution to international Sport for All and Physical Activity (SAPA) by successfully hosting the 4th Busan TAFISA World Sport for All Games in 2008. The award is named after and in tribute of Jurgen Palm, the founder of TAFISA (Trim and Fitness International Sport for all Association).

"I assume that our efforts have been acknowledged to make the event an international festival for all participants, transcending nations, people and religions," Hur said.

About 2,500 athletes from 101 countries, as well as 30 IOC members and 600 international sports personalities participated in the event.

Jeong Lak-hyeong, deputy mayor for political affairs, received the award on behalf of the mayor.

The biennial general meeting, the TAFISA World Congress, is being playing host to about 200 participants from member nations and organizations related to international sports.
