Listen

State-owned KBS picked Sohn Byung-doo, former president of Sogang University, as chairman of its board of directors Tuesday.

``I will do my utmost to make KBS a broadcasting company that is trusted and loved by the people,'' Sohn said in a statement.

Sohn, a graduate of Seoul National University, worked as an adviser to the Federation of Korean Industries and chief of the Korea Council for University Education.

Of the eleven board members, eight voted for Sohn and three against. President Lee Myung-bak will award appointment credentials to new board members Monday at Cheong Wa Dae.

Sohn said he will rationalize the organization and drastically remove inefficient units.

He added that he will make aggressive moves to strengthen the competitiveness of the nation's largest broadcaster.
