An information technology engineer from a local mobile communication solution provider will have his name listed in one of world's most acclaimed biographical directories in recognition of his research achievements.

Hong Young-ki, a manager at the IT Engineering Center of SK C&C, will be listed in the 2010 edition of Marquis Who's Who for the excellence of his study on a defect-diminishing model in software projects, SK C&C said Tuesday.

In the research, titled ``A value-added predictive defect type distribution model based on project characteristics,'' Hong and his colleagues delved into a solution to minimize defects in quality management with a new approach to predict the distribution of defects and their types based on project characteristics in the early phase of software-development projects.

Currently, the field does not have a complete defect prediction for a software product, while the number of defects alone is not sufficient information to provide the basis for planning quality assurance activities and assessing them during execution. Project management also needs to predict errors taking place in its development process.

Using Hong's model, software developers can be aware of shortcomings and the additionally information required in the process of their projects beforehand, thus improving overall quality of the engineering work.

The study was presented at last year's International Conference on Computer and Information Science held in Portland, Ore., in the United States.

Hong said he will continue his study to raise the quality of software and projects in their development
