Ohm Kyong-sop, Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) executive vice president and vice president for strategic management, was appointed as acting president of the tourism body Sunday, the organization said.

He will lead the organization until a new head is selected. Former President Oh Jee-chul resigned last week after losing a bid to become secretary-general at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in early May. A new head will be appointed by President Lee Myung-bak following public consultation and a recommendation from the tourism minister.

Ohm, 57, entered the KTO in 1977 and has held positions including executive director for the New York office, executive director for the tourism academy, executive director for the domestic marketing department and vice president for tourism technology.
