LIG Engineering and Construction, the construction arm of the LIG Group, picked former Hyundai Engineering and Construction executive Kang Hee-yong as its new chief executive officer, the company said Thursday.
The company also plans to change its Korean name from LIG Kunyung to LIG Geonseol (construction) as it prepares to review its growth strategies to get a stronger position on domestic and global markets.
The 62-year-old Kang is a construction industry veteran with more than 30 years experience and has worked as director of Hyundai E&C's public engineering division and the No.2 Yeongdong Expressway construction team. He recently was CEO of the privately owned No. 2 Yeongdong Expressway.
Current LIG E&C CEO Noh Tai-wook was promoted to vice chairman of the group.
``Kang will help the company strengthen its competitiveness in public engineering, which was comparatively weak, and also find more growth from overseas markets and new businesses,'' said an LIG E&C spokesman.
