Vice Knowledge Economy Minister Ahn Chul-shik Dies

A deputy minister of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy died Wednesday, nine days after being appointed to the post. The cause of death has not yet been determined but is believed to be exhaustion.

Ahn Chul-shik, 56, was transferred to Seoul's Gangnam Samsung Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after complaining of diffuculty in breathing after returning home from work.

Police and Ahn's family said he'd had a large amount of work after being promoted.

A graduated of Sungkyunkwan University with a bachechors degree in economics, Ahn started his public career in 1981. The energy specialist was promoted this month. He was previously in charge of the ministry's energy & resources policy division.

His wife, son and daughter survive him.
