Cho pledged to make the school a global university such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the U.S. The school will form a triangle of Korea’s science universities with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Pohang University of Science and Technology, he said.

A graduate of the college of agriculture and life science at Gyeongsang National University, Cho received master’s degree from Seoul National University and a Ph. D from the University of Missouri in the United States.

Cho served as director of the Korean Science and Engineering Foundation and a member of the basic science evaluation team at the Ministry of Science and Technology.

He concurrently works as director of the Korea Research Council for Industrial Science and Technology.

The science and technology university in Ulsan will open in March 2009 and accept about 5,000 freshmen. Cho’s term ends in August 2011.
