Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon sent words of comfort to stricken fans and earthquake victims Tuesday after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit northwestern Japan, according to Yonhap News.

The earthquake killed at least seven people and sparked a small radiation leak and fire at the world's biggest nuclear power plant.

On his official Japanese website, Bae Yong-joon left a message on the forum board saying, ``after hearing about the situation of the disaster stricken region, I am worried about everyone's welfare.’’ He continued by adding, ``to my fans and all of the earthquake victims, I offer my wholehearted sympathy. By all means be safe.’’

Bae Yong-joon, known more famously as ``yonsama’’ is the one of the most popular Korean actors in Japan, known for his role in various television dramas including the well-received ``Winter Sonata.’’ Hallyu or the ``Korean wave’’ refers to the recent popularity of South Korean popular culture including TV dramas and music in other countries, especially other Asian nations.

He ended with the words, ``I pray that peace of mind for all the people who have been evacuated comes as soon as it can.’’
