The death of Stephen Hawking, an English physicist and cosmologist, was announced on March 14. As a philosopher, trying to know the ultimate nature of the universe by studying the limited lives of human beings, the beginning and end, creation and destruction of the universe and the theories of singularity and relativity, as studied by Hawking, have always been my intellectual concerns. Hawking's death aroused my interest to read his saju and it led to an astonishing conclusion.
Being born on January 8, 1942, Hawking's saju yields a great amount of yin metal energy. First of all, his day master is yin metal, representing a sharp, precious and destructive device like a sword, pencil or metallic items. Metal communicates information, being focused, intuitive and confident while emotional and aggressive in pursuing goals. Metals tend to be loners, isolated and often withdrawn. They can be stubborn, driven by inner faith whether they are right or wrong. They can be extremely driven to pursue their goals, and when problems arise they turn inward to find answers.
Metal is associated with autumn energy. 'Monkey, rooster and dog' or 'snake, rooster and cow' make metallic trines. In the saju of Hawking, these three zodiac letters, snake (fire), rooster (metal) and cow (earth) constitute his year, day and month pillars, on top of the three yin metal letters in heavenly stems. Consequently all six letters generated from his birth year, month and day became a great aggregation of metal energy.
Then what would a life be when the saju consists of only one element? First of all, the life becomes noble pursuing only one ultimate lifelong goal. When there is no sign against the day master, life would lead to an absolute structure and a serene ride.
In the case of Hawking's saju, earth(metal(water are the elements that flow in a stable cycle. However, I estimate he was born with the energy of fire or wood that hamper this circulation. Especially if they were wood representing four limbs and the nervous system, they would have been chopped by the strong metal energy. This can explain his health problems and paralysis.
He was diagnosed with motor neurone disease when he was 21. It was when his 10-year-luck started with the earth elements. He died in 2018 which has the same letters as when he was 21 years old. It supports the assumption his time pillar would have been wood and fire elements. It is such a quirk of fate that humans cannot go against their destiny.
Nevertheless, the genuine energy structure in Hawking's saju made a great physicist applying the black hole and singularity theories to the whole cosmos although he had difficulty with paralysis and loss of speech for most of his life.
