A saju reading consists of five elements and yin and yang of cosmic energy. Therefore the basic perception about a saju reading is to locate the five elements and their interactions. However not every saju has all five elements. Moreover yin and yang are not balanced in many cases. Some have all eight letters in yin energy while others are all in yang energy. This kind of disproportionate propensity generates a meaningful interpretation of one’s tendencies in life.
Furthermore, some saju show a unique appearance, having only one or two elements. They may look deficient in their energy composition while yielding genuineness at the same time.
Most people try to locate money stars in their saju hoping for wealth, while others look for career stars. They also count the number of individual stars to quantify a specific fortune. However saju without these stars don’t always manifest an insufficient life lacking in riches or fame.

A rare example shows how the saju of a singular element portrays destiny. This is the saju of Park Inbee, the first Korean female golfer who won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She is known for her calmness that’s seldom been staggered during games. Among Park’s popular quotes, she said, “Outside the golf course, I feel the pressure, and I feel what everybody else is feeling. But on the golf course, it's just the golf ball and clubs. And when I have that, it just puts a lot of pressure off of me. It just makes me very calm looking at it.” The way she manages the tension of every critical moment of a game points to her self-poise even with an injured thumb.
Although her birth hour is not disclosed, people assume that she may also have all earth elements (birth hour between around 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.). The earth branches actually contain various other elements inside as people store many items inside or bury them underground. Accordingly a saju with all earth elements doesn’t necessarily mean a saju of only one element. Nevertheless, it definitely stands for the thickness and width of vast plains and a kind of a great insurmountable wall.
A saju with only one element or energy circulating toward one, for example wood to fire or metal to water, needs to be interpreted by the major energy inclination. In the saju of Park, all the energy is concentrated on the earth. In this case, both fire and metal are lucky elements while wood and water are not welcomed as they either restrict or drain earth’s power.
2016 has the energy of fire as the heavenly stem and metal as the earthly branch, which would bring good luck for Park in regards to her reputation and popularity, despite some injuries. According to her 10-year forecast, she will have a combination of fire and earth until age 32. On the other hand, we may have to observe how her destiny will unfold with the coming energy of wood from the next 10-year phase onward.
