Kwang Dong Pharmaceutical has begun to sell Kids & Pen, a pain reliever and fever reducer syrup for children aged between three and six, it said Friday.

A pack of Kids & Pen contains 10 five-milliliter sticks of syrup.

“Unlike cough syrup, which comes in a bottle, this new syrup comes in a stick-type package, which is more convenient to carry for outdoor activities,” a company spokesman said.

Children who weigh less than 30 kilograms can take up to five sticks a day.

The syrup’s active component is ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, which can alleviate pain and reduce inflammation. The compound is also used to treat arthritis and muscular strain.

The component is known as one of the most effective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, the company said.

It contains no preservatives or artificial colors.

It is an over-the-counter drug, which means it can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription.

The orange-flavored syrup is ideal for children, who usually dislike medicine that tastes bitter.

“We hope our new product will be more convenient for parents during outdoor activity, when their children suddenly experience fever or pain,” the spokesman said.

“We use a specially designed cartoon character for the Kids & Pen package to help children easily unwrap it before taking the syrup,” he added.
