(301) New Year's fortune for 2015

Listen

By Janet Shin

It feels like just yesterday since we forecasted the fortune of 2014. Time flies and another New Year has begun. The coming 2015 is the year of a ‘blue sheep’, while we called the previous year a blue horse. In terms of oriental calendar, especially saju, the New Year would exactly start on Feb. 4th, as of the onset of spring. It is time for people to read personal saju including their family members and even the fate of a country.

People may want to impart a special meaning to each year by symbolizing them with animals-zodiac signs. It is true that they have distinctive characteristics that come up with the image of each animal. The years of dragon, for example, suggests power and authority, which was 2012 when there were many presidential elections around the world. 2015, on the other hand, radiates an intrinsic energy that is associated with the image of sheep toward all the natural beings including nations living in this period. It is regarded as tenacious while it may be seen meek in its outward appearance. It is actually tough to survive in rugged land. It may hurt the roots, leaves and fruits of plants as a result.

The zodiac years circulate by 12 years. That means the representative energy repeats with 12-year-cycle. Furthermore, in saju, the heavenly and earthly energy combine each other to generate 60 connections. Accordingly it has 60-year-cycle and we are able to get more comprehensive and elaborated information by decoding them, instead of just 12 zodiac animals.

In this regard, 2015 has wood (green) energy as a heavenly sign and earth (yellow) as an earthly one. When it comes to the five element relationship, wood and earth are incompatible each other. It is because the wood restrains the earth as if trees absorb the energy of earth by taking roots in it. When the elements of heaven and earth conflict each other, we foretell discordant between up and down.

The past year 2014, has the combination of wood and fire, while the two energies were not antipathic, it was like a burning fire and people could have been very emotional. Someone says it was a year of fury. We were aggrieved directly or indirectly by many accidents. They were not just natural disasters. They aroused resentment for recklessness and insincerity. People were infuriated by them.

The year 2015 will be the year of dissonance. The heavenly element (wood) has yang energy while the earth gradually turns into yin. It is a transition period from yang to yin or vice versa and from leaves to fruits. Sheep are sensitive to the environment and roaming around for food. Nations will try various policies for their economic and political growth but they will be accompanied by strife. Some may have to undergo economic plight as the earth has to endure the restraint from the wood. The sense of incongruity that nobody wins and nothing gained will be rampant.

Meanwhile Blue Sheep, or “eul-mi” in Korean, also denotes a devil energy that conceives varied calamity. People may concern about the antagonism between the north and south, the east and west, and in all walks of life. The foundation of ruling circles will be daunted while the powerless commoner will have to lean on others.

However the yin wood is more flexible than the yang energy and will bear fruits afterward. The harvest comes to those who wait.

People, born in the year of pig, rabbit and sheep will be caught in “samjae,” or three years of misfortune, in 2015. Pig years are 1959, 1971, 1983, Rabbit years are 1951, 1963, 1975, and sheep years are 1955, 1967, 1979. Those who have zodiac letters of cow and dog will conflict with the energy of 2015. They are required to be careful about accidents, gossips, loss of money and defamation.
