Why are people interested in feng shui? It is because they appreciate the consequence of the surroundings. Everything around us, whether it is a living creature or an inanimate object, influences our life tremendously. People get to know and feel it even though it is hard to prove by scientific measurements. We learn that some experienced awful misfortune after moving to a new residence, or bringing in an odd object, such as an antique or things that once belonged to others. Others are suffering for sleepless nights after changing their bedroom curtains or even get a cancer. People often ask my opinion about their feng shui when they experience serious of misfortune after move or renovation of their place.
While people are trying to utilize feng shui to improve their life, not all of them know how to exactly apply it. Some may regard it as a way of how to do their house interior. In the meantime, it is still regarded as picking an auspicious site for their houses, offices or graves. If we combine these two concepts in modern perspectives, it is how we locate appliances, furniture and fixtures at the right places for our home and office interior.
Considering our life styles, desks and beds are the two most pragmatic components. The former is related with our social achievement while the latter is associated with our health. People, who attend my feng shui lectures, indeed ask many questions about these two, in order to confirm whether their current placements are favorable. They want to know the best location for their children’s room, so as to improve their concentration and scholastic achievement. Referring to the children’s room, especially their study room, it is usually recommended to locate in the north part of the house. North inspires concentration and memory.

If we focus our attention to the desk, both for the library and the offices, the answer may come out differently. Unlike children’s rooms, adults’ have diverse purposes. They may work at their desks for social success, promotion, creation, marketing and management on top of studying itself. I have provided feng shui consultations for many global companies who deliberate seriously about the location and interior of their executive member’s offices. They exert every effort to make their room the best feng shui place as their fortune is connected directly to the future of the company.
To begin with, we need to discern the direction as we get distinctive energy from each direction. Among them, significant directional influences are released as below.
l North : Concentration, Security, Stability
l East : Promotion, Success
l South-east : Marketing
l South : Creation
l West : Accounting and Finance
l East-west : Management, Leadership
So it would be beneficial to choose the room locations according to the preferred purposes. Then, after picking up an auspicious site, how can we arrange the furniture, especially the desks. The first and fundamental step is to consider your birth zodiac signs. The 12 signs are grouped as below into four groups.
monkey, rat and dragonpig, rabbit and sheeptiger, horse and dogsnake, chicken and cow
For those who were born in group-A, the best direction they should face is toward south-south-west. For groups-B, it is more recommendable to face north-west-west when they sit at the desk. For group-C, it is north-north-east, and for group-D, it is east-east-south. They are marked in below diagram in red arrows. Of course it applies to the desk only. When it comes to bed or others, such as front doors, the answer for the luckiest position and which direction you should face are different.
Check how and where your desks are placed. If you have ever had uncomfortable experiences at your career or studies, you may consider rearrangement of your furniture to change the atmosphere. You have nothing to lose by listening to the feng shui teaching.
