Elderly people aged between 70 and 74 will be able to get free dementia checkups from this year, the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs said Sunday.

At the moment, the government, through the National Health Insurance Corporation, foots the bill for only those aged over 66-years-old.

The ministry also plans to expand other areas of annual health checkups. People over 40 will be able to get heart and brain vascular examinations as well as the doctor's consultation being free of charge.
