Man Booker winner 'The Vegetarian' shows strong sales in Britain, U.S.

"The Vegetarian," the 2016 Man Booker International Prize winner by South Korean author Han Kang, has garnered renewed attention from readers in Britain and the United States.

As of 10 a.m. Friday, the book ranked 51st in the best selling list on Amazon.com in Britain. Immediately after the award on Monday, the book went as high as 16th in the list. Fifteen readers posted a review, and among them 13 gave four stars out of five.

On the U.S. version of Amazon, the book ranked 77th. A total of 98 readers left a review and nearly 60 percent of them gave the book either 4 or 5 stars.

By genre, the book was somehow categorized as "Political Fiction" and topped that chart.

The book has gone into a second printing of 20,000 copies in the U.K. and 7,500 copies in the U.S. to meet increasing demand.

An insider in the Korean book industry said breaking into the top 100 best-seller list meant a lot, as a massive number of books were available on the site that is used by readers from all over the world. (Yonhap)
