South African-born Australian pop star Troye Sivan is set to hold his first solo concert on April 27 at Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul. The Asia leg of his tour, which also includes stops in Tokyo, Taipei, Manila, Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok, comes in support of his critically acclaimed album “Bloom,” released in August.
The record spawned hits such as “My My My!” which topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart and “Dance To This,” a duet with American pop star Ariana Grande.
Sivan started his singing career by recording a mix of cover videos on his own YouTube channel. In 2014, he got signed and released a mini-album titled “TRXYE.” He released his second mini-album “Wild” after his debut studio album “Blue Neighbourhood,” consisting of one of his breakthrough hits “Youth” in 2015.
Since coming out as gay in 2013, the 23-year-old has used his platform to take on a more activist role on behalf of the LGBT community. His latest album “Bloom” lays bare all the triumphs and struggles that come with his sexual identity. Sivan often uses music to open up about his own mental health struggles and encourage listeners to overcome their battles as well.
Apart from music, the emerging singer-songwriter has dabbled in acting since playing the young Wolverine in 2009's “X Men Origins: Wolverine.” He most recently appeared in “Boy Erased,” a movie about a gay teen whose parents sent him to conversion therapy.
Although Sivan is staging his debut concert in Seoul next year, he visited Korea in 2016 to perform at Jisan Valley Rock Music & Arts Festival before an estimated crowd of 12,000.
Surprised by Korean fans' over-the-top support, he tweeted in Korean “It was the best moment of my life. Thank you, Korea!” Earlier this year, he also tweeted “Dear Korean fans, I miss you guys so much. Please check out my new single My My My! See you soon!” in Korean.
