A unique version of the pansori “Simcheongga” will be staged at the Sejong Chamber Hall of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in central Seoul, Sept. 24.
The first performance of the Sejong Center’s Midday Pansori Concert series, “Shimcheong Reconstructed” will take place at 11 a.m. in an attempt to make pansori (traditional Korean narrative music) more accessible to the public.
“Shimcheong Reconstructed” has taken “Simcheongga” and turned it into a one-woman pansori performance. Pansori master Kim Tae-hee will both sing and narrate, and will not be accompanied by a master drummer.
The story about a girl named Simcheong and her blind father, “Simcheongga” is one of the five surviving pieces of the Korean pansori storytelling tradition. Tickets are 20,000 won. For more information, call (02) 399-1000.
