Antique Shop to hold exhibition

Antique Shop, a monthly magazine, will hold an exhibition to celebrate its 10th volume from Sept. 17-23 at Baegak Art Space in Insa-dong, Seoul.

The seven-day event, titled the “Man Go Dang Exhibition,” will feature the display of collections of antiques, which are based on the theme of the life and death of ancestors.

The shop owns a vast collection of ancient art pieces, such as puppets, wooden furniture, ceramics and paintings at Janganpyeong, Seoul, which were collected over the past 40 years.

The first floor of the exhibit hall introduces the life of ancestors from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), featuring collections of white porcelains, white and blue porcelain and grayish-blue-powdered celadons. The traditional household items such as cedar chests from the Eonyang and Ganghwa regions, wardrobe sand desks will also be displayed.

The second floor displays bier ornaments and funeral items that deliver a message of death as an extension of life.

“We have put together the exhibition to introduce our ancestors’ culture in diverse aspects through collections, from folk art to the highest royal collections,” said an Antique Shop official.
