Fashion-culture fair Fashion KODE to kick off

The Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will jointly host 2015 Fashion KODE F/W, a fashion-culture fair that takes place twice yearly, at the SETEC Seoul Convention Venue in southern Seoul from Jan. 29 through 31.

Fashion KODE, now in its third year, will feature a variety of events including fashion shows and exhibitions by some 127 Korean and Chinese designers, and performances by “hallyu” (Korean wave) stars like Girls’ Generation ― TTS (TaeTiSeo) and bands like Crying Nut and No Brain. Girls’ Generation TaeTiSeo was named the official PR ambassador for Fashion KODE.

Some 300 buyers attended the S/S Fashion KODE last July, which featured 120 brands.

The aim of Fashion KODE is to boost the development of the fashion industry and to strengthen the potential of fashion brands in the global market. Tickets will be available beginning Jan. 12 on online shopping mall Interpark. For more information, visit www.fashionkode.com.

Nat’l theater to showcase opera based on Korean folklore

The Muse Opera Company will perform “Baebijangjeon,” a traditional Korean opera, at the National Theater of Korea for two days on Jan. 17 and 18.

Based on traditional Korean folklore, the opera revolves around the story of Aerang, a female entertainer looking to seduce a regional officer, who tries to stay faithful to his deceased wife.

Baritones Kim Seung-chul and Yeom Hyeon-joon will alternate the role of the officer, and sopranos Lee Jeong-shin and Lee Myung-hee will feature Aerang.

‘Ode to My Father’ rules year-opening box office

“Ode to My Father,” a domestic film, portraying Korean history from the 1950s to present through the eyes of an ordinary family man, took local box office crown in first week of 2015.

Released on Dec. 17, the film has garnered more than 7.7 million admissions as of Sunday, according to the data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).

It is followed by Hollywood action flick “Taken 3” and animated feature “The Penguins of Madagascar.”

“My Love, Don’t Cross the River,” a local documentary film telling the story of elderly couple’s 76 years of marriage and the husband’s death placed fourth, attracting over 4.3 million audiences.

Kim Mu-yeol, Yoon Seung-ah to tie knot

Actor Kim Mu-yeol and actress Yoon Seung-ah will tie the knot in April, according to their agencies, Monday.

Kim’s agency Prain TPC and Yoon’s agency Fantagio issued a joint press release detailing an April 4 wedding in Seoul.

“The two have decided to take their three-year relationship a step further,” the press release reads. “They will hold a wedding ceremony on April 4 in the presence of family and close friends.”

Kim and Yoon first met in November 2011 before going public with their relationship in February 2012.
