DiCaprio to visit Korea to promote 'Django'

Leonardo DiCaprio, who stars in the Quentin Tarantino western “Django Unchained” will make his first ever visit to Korea early next month to promote the film, promotional agency All That Cinema said.

In the film, DiCaprio, 39, plays a plantation owner in the American South. “Django,” which opens in Korea on March 21 has been nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.

The star’s visit to Korea is highly anticipated as several films he has starred in including “Titanic (1997) and “Catch me if You Can (2002)” are popular here.

“Django,” in which Tarantino’s penchant for violence is in full effect, has been hailed as a dispassionate look at slavery. Its main character Django (Jamie Foxx) is on a hunt for his wife, who is owned by a cruel owner named Calvin Candie, played by DiCaprio. The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz and Kerry Washington.

The former child actor has appeared in several movies including “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” (1993) before gaining wider recognition in Korea in the 1996 film “Romeo + Juliet.”
