South Korea has improved its quality of life to become the world's 18th best this year, a survey by a U.S. nonprofit organization showed Thursday.
지난 목요일 미국의 비영리 단체가 발표한 조사 결과에 따르면, 한국이 생활 수준 향상으로 인해 전 세계에서 열여덟 번째로 살기 좋은 나라로 선정되었다.
According to the survey conducted by the Social Progress Imperative, South Korea earned an overall score of 87.13 out of 100 in its "social progress index" survey for 2018, making it 18th of 146 nations surveyed across the globe. Last year, the Northeast Asian nation ranked 26th.
사회 발전 조사기구(SPI)에서 실시한 설문에 의하면, 한국은 2018년 사회발전지수에서 100점 만점에 87점을 얻어 전 세계 146개국 중 18위를 차지했다. 한국의 작년 순위는 26위였다.
The index aggregates 51 social and environmental indicators that track three aspects of social progress: basic human needs, foundations of wellbeing and opportunity. The organization began compiling such data in 2013.
지수는 51개의 사회적 환경적 지표를 합쳐 사회 발전의 세 가지 면인 인간의 기본 욕구, 웰빙, 기회를 평가한다. 조사기구는 2013년부터 데이터를 쌓기 시작했다.
“South Korea earned relatively high scores in its solid education and IT infrastructure among others, but needs more efforts to improve environmental quality and to promote social inclusiveness for minorities,” said Cho Yong-ho, an official of international consultancy Deloitte Anjin which works with the non-profit group for the study.
사회 발전 조사기구와 함께 이 연구에 참여하는 다국적 컨설팅 기업 딜로이트 안진의 조양호 씨는 “한국은 탄탄한 교육과 훌륭한 인터넷·정보통신 기술에서 다른 나라들보다 상대적으로 높은 점수를 얻었으나 환경의 질 부문과 소수자 포용 측면에서 더욱더 노력이 필요하다”고 말했다.
Norway topped the list this year with 90.26 points, followed by Iceland, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Japan, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Germany and New Zealand.
노르웨이가 90.26점을 얻어 올해 사회발전지수 1위를 차지했고 아이슬란드, 스위스, 덴마크, 핀란드, 일본, 네덜란드, 룩셈부르크, 독일, 뉴질랜드가 그 뒤를 이었다.
