North Korea fired several short-range missiles into the East Sea at 3:19 p.m. on Monday in the latest in a series of provocations in reaction to new U.S. sanctions and the ongoing Seoul-Washington joint military drills.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said the missiles were launched from the northeastern city of Hamhung at around 3:19 p.m., and flew some 200 kilometers.
“Our military is keeping close tabs on the situation and standing by with a heightened defense posture,” the JCS said.
This provocation came three days after the North fired two mid-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea, one of which blew up in mid-air.
Early this month, the North also fired two short-range missiles into the same direction.
