Pyongyang in the dough with pizza shop

A video showing a pizza restaurant in the newly built Mirae Scientist Street in Pyongyang has attracted plenty of online attention.

Singaporean photographer Aram Pan uploaded the video titled “Ryung Song Pizza Restaurant” to YouTube on Dec. 6.

“Scientist Street” has been highly touted by the North Korean media, with leader Kim Jong-un making repeated visits.

In the video, Pan and Charlotte, who works for North Korea specialist tourism operator Young Pioneer Tours, and two North Korean tourists visit Ryung Song Pizza Restaurant.

They found the restaurant after searching for 20 minutes, because few know its exact location.

The restaurant was clean and spacious, but nearly empty.

There were 14 types of pizza, including beef and salami, and six spaghettis.

A pizza cost from $0.03 to $0.09, and a bowl of spaghetti around $0.34.

The visitors described their pizzas as “delicious” and “not bad.”

Restaurant employees sang and danced in front of them while they ate.

“I have been to North Korea 10 times,” YouTube user Fan wrote. “I visited the pizza restaurant because I was rather bored of eating at the same hot pot restaurant.”

The video had attracted 19,000 views by 1 p.m. on Dec. 23.

Meanwhile, the exact date of the restaurant visit was not mentioned.
