Korean, Mexican FMs discuss cooperation in AI, middle-power solidarity

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with his Mexican counterpart, Roberto Velasco, on Monday to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), energy security and other areas of mutual interest, Seoul's foreign ministry said.

During the meeting held in Seoul, Cho said bilateral ties have become more important than ever amid growing uncertainty in the global economy, ranging from supply chains and energy to food and security, according to the ministry.

The minister then called for strengthening "the institutional foundation" for trade and investment, and diversifying cooperation into areas such as AI, space, education and the defense industry.

Velasco stressed the need for the two countries to contribute to building a more inclusive and representative international order that reflects the perspectives of middle powers, noting that bilateral ties are based on shared principles of democracy, human rights and respect for international law.

The two ministers also noted that President Lee Jae Myung accepted an invitation by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to visit Mexico during their meeting in May, the ministry said.
