Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will visit a memorial monument in the southeastern port city of Busan on Wednesday to honor the sacrifices of Australian troops who fought in the 1950-53 Korean War, the veterans ministry said.

Albanese, who is visiting South Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, is scheduled to pay tribute at the U.N. Memorial Cemetery, alongside Veterans Minister Kwon Oh-eul, later in the day, according to the ministry.

Kwon plans to present a portrait of Lt. Col. Charles Green, the first commanding officer of the Australian Army killed in action after being hit by North Korean artillery fire.

Albanese will then lay flowers at Green's grave and pay his respects.

Australia sent 17,164 service members to the Korean War, of whom 340 were killed and 1,216 wounded, according to the ministry.
