Unification ministry to host forum over peace on Korean Peninsula this week

The unification ministry said Wednesday it will host a forum on peace this week in a bid to explore ways to muster support for the Lee Jae Myung administration's North Korea and unification policy.

The Global Korea Forum (GKF) will take place from Thursday through Friday at a hotel in Seoul under the theme of "Toward Peaceful Coexistence on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia," according to the ministry.

This year's forum is aimed at mustering support at home and abroad for the Lee administration's efforts to bring peace to the Korean Peninsula and improve inter-Korean relations.

On the first day, Michael Sandel, a professor at Harvard University, will speak at a plenary session over the crisis of democracy and challenges to peaceful coexistence.

On Friday, Archbishop Hyginus Kim Hee-joong will speak about the need to restore community spirit in the process of seeking peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Discussion sessions will cover a range of topics, including inter-Korean exchanges, how to develop Korea's official unification formula and the role of civil society, the ministry added.
